Maintenance & Replacement
Replace the canister at the interval in the machine’s service manual, and sooner when the duty is severe – dusty mine circuits load filtration faster than any schedule assumes. On many fleets this element is changed at every planned service as a matter of policy because the cost is trivial against a contamination failure.
Pre-fill or pre-lubricate the new canister if the manual calls for it, wipe the filter head sealing face clean, and spin the canister up until the seal contacts – then tighten by hand to the marked position or torque. A strap wrench that crushes the canister body does not belong anywhere near a filter head.
Never attempt to drain, wash or reseat a used canister for another round of service. The media inside is loaded and the seal has taken a set – running a second interval on it risks either restriction or bypass, and both end in the same place.
After the first start following replacement, check the seal area for leaks at operating conditions, confirm pressure or restriction readings behave normally, and log the hour reading. Dispose of the old canister responsibly – drained and decommissioned per site environmental rules.
